The daff is a round hand drum that can range in size from six to more than twenty inches. It is common throughout the Muslim world. The daff is often used to accompany Nasheed and Qasidah singers at Islamic gatherings, on the days of Eid and at weddings.

Learn to play the daff at Darul Qira’ah with daff player Abdurrahman Smith, who teaches an introductory course aimed at teaching students how to play the daff so that they can accompany Nasheed singers.

The course covers an introduction to the daff, its Islamic ruling, holding positions, main strokes, additional effects, easy rhythms, Middle Eastern rhythms, and famous Nasheed rhythms.

The course is taught online and is open to men and boys of all ages and girls under 11.

Abdurrahman is fully DBS checked.
